Well, today was a good day to snorkel when we got up. I actually woke up around six thirty and got out of bed around ten o'clock. I read all the time. When we got up we had our usual breakfast. After a few hours we all agreed to go snorkelling.
We went to Turquoise Bay first. It was GREAT fun. We entered the water and went off to explore the reef. The water was quite warm, but cold at first. Mum stayed behind while the rest o us set off. After a while my brother left us - I think the current was a little strong for him. And his feet were also hurting him. But, snorkelling is something where you want to see and learn, not struggle.
So dad and I went on, - floating across the reef where the current had stopped. We saw loads of pretty fish! The coral was HUGE, and so were some fish. Soon dad spotted a shark! I didn't know it until we actually got back to shore. It was just lying there and flapping its gills, not paying any attention to us.
The shark looked more like a miniature whale shark. Even though the shark was bigger than me - one metre, fifty one centimetres - it would have been miniature to a whale shark. They'r the biggest fish in the sea! Anyway, we swam on and saw loads more coral. We saw tiny little zebra fish things, wrasses (a family of fish), and loads of Spangled Emperor and other tiny/big fish.
Soon we arrived back and got out of the water. That's when I fouled out that that thing was a shark. Next time round we took my brother. Out we went again, through the current and onto the reef. This time we went past some ENORMOUS coral. It dad swam over it it would have grazed him probably.
Again we arrived at the shore and left again without coming out of the water. It was only dad and me again. We saw more and more fish, and, soon, we back at shore. I played around with my brother herding darts - a sort of fish.
After some drying off time we drove to Lakeside. It was another recommended snorkelling spot. On the way we stopped at the Visitors Centre and mum bought lunch and an underwater camera. Our lunch was a pasti, a pie and two sausage rolls. Then we started the walk to the snorkelling spot.
When we arrived the water was the second place we went. In and ageist the current, My brother left us again after some time, but it was AMAZING out there!! I saw little clumps of what looked like staghorn coral covered little zebra fish things.
Soon we swam back in and along the shore - upwards - with my brother.. We drifted down with the current and found a flounder. Whenever dad let this piece of coral fall on top of it, it darted fifteen centimetres away and then stopped. This was really funny to watch!
At the end we spotted a shell with a crab in it. It was funny to see the shell rise and fall with s snap when you go to close to it. when you try to bury it, it just scuttles away. Das went out of the water and my brother and I found another shell with a crab in it!
It didn't scuttle away when we buried it, so we had to unbury it. After a while we left and drove back home. We had dinner really early and had a wash after it. We also went to have a look at the cloudy sunset. All we do is wash ourselves with a face washer to save water. Then we all wrote our journals and went to bed. I really hope we can book a tour to snorkeli with the whale sharks in Exmouth tomorrow!!!
