Eight Hundred and Seventy Kilometres

We woke up early in the morning today and had a bit of tablet and our first breakfast in Broome without our tablets. After that we all packed up the caravan were ready to leave. Alan and Judy were leaving after us because they weren't travelling as far. For it was our first travelling day without Alan and Judy.

We said our goodbyes and drove off for a full days travelling. I listened to my iPod until it was only down to twenty percent and I didn't want to waste the batteries. Then I just sat or played my car games. After at least two roadhouses we stopped and had some lunch. Then we kept driving. In the end it was a whole days travelling and we made around eight hundred and seventy kilometres. Our best is eight hundred and eleven, so we were pretty happy.

We decided to stay the night near Karajini National Park. We set up but didn't unhook the caravan because we would be leaving again tomorrow. We wrote our journals and had some Chicken Alfredo for dinner. I had a very hot day but it was still good!!!

L'inverno la domenica.

Tomorrow We Leave

Today we woke up in the morning and had some breakfast. After a while we drove off to the market. There I got a head band and this butterfly magnet. Mum and I had a pancake each too. Mum had one with mango and I had one banana and nutella. They were really good!

After a while dad and my brother came and we all had a Fruit Thing. Mum had mango and strawberry; my brother had mango and pineapple; and dad and I each had a mango and coconut. Then mum and I went to the wildlife stand. They had a Black-Headed Python, a Pygmy Python, a Water Python, a Stimson's Python and some other pythons.

After that we took a Fruit Thing home to Alan and had some lunch. After that my brother and I went for a three hour swim. When we came back my brother and I went for a shower. Then I relaxed, listening to my iPod and playing a game. After a while we had some nachos for dinner. I had a great day!!

Astro Tour

Today we woke up and had some breakfast. Mum did at least SIX loads of washing, hanging them up on the clothes lines. Meanwhile my brother and I cleaned the caravan. I did the side with the door and the front. Dad had to do some of the high bits though because I couldn't reach. After a while we had some lunch and mum decided that she had done enough for the day and was going to relax.

After lunch my brother and I went for a swim after dad had checked his school work. We played for about two hours when we were getting bored and went back to the caravan. Then dad went to get some frozen mangoes and mum went to do some shopping. When all the shopping was done we had a really early dinner of small toasted sandwiches.

Then we drove out to do an Astronomy Tour. To get to it we had to turn left onto and unmarked track fifty metres from the Cape Leveque/Derby sign. Not on the curb. We drove in and followed the party lights around empty dam and parked. When we got out we walked to the place where the telescopes were set up and sat down on stools. We were then ready for two hours of stargazing.

We had a look at Mercury and Saturn. Saturn was really good with all its rings through the telescope. It looked really amazing! Greg - the tour guide - showed us lots of stuff in the sky. We also watched the earth turn. We got some stars from the east, west, and above us. Our two stars in the west were actually one star and one planet; Mercury and Regulus. At the start of the night they were above to horizon, and at the end you couldn't see them.

We found lots of stars and we spotted the Southern Cross, Pointers, Leo, a crown, and I think we found a bit of Orion's bow and arrow. We also found the South Celestial Pole. At the end we had a look through telescopes. We looked at the Jewel Box, Alpha Centauri, Clusters, Saturn, and anything we liked through binoculars. We had some hot chocolate that tasted like hot water and drove back to the caravan.

When we got back my brother and I brushed our teeth, went to the toilet and then went straight to bed. I had a great night looking at all the stars!!!!

Mango Smoothie

We woke up in the morning to another cold day. We then had some breakfast and my brother and I did some school work. We did that until lunch time and then had some food. After that my brother and I went for a two hour swim. We came back because my brother found a gecko swimming in the water and we released it by the caravan.

After that a lady from next door came over and showed us how to make a mango smoothie in her Thermo Mix. After that we wrote our journals. I tried to play mini golf with a cricket that jumped into the caravan and used my telescopic eye to find the letter 'y' on my keyboard on the computer. And missed. Then we had some Chinese Cabbage salad. It was OK. Then we were soon in bed and fast asleep. I had a great day swimming and being funny!

Sentosa Charters

We woke up today in the morning around five forty five. Mum, dad and my brother had at least one piece of bread and each had a Travelcalm tablet. Then we did a few toilet trips and were finally in the going to drive to my brothers birthday surprise. Alan also didn't know what we were doing because it was his birthday too! My brother had to put mums hat over his eyes because it was a surprise, and he said it was stuffy.

The surprise actually started at Gantheaume Point. There we met Cameron who owned the charter we were going on. Then we hopped on Sea Legs, the zodiac that Cameron owns. Sea Legs is a zodiac with wheel that clip up and down so you don't have to get your feet wet when you get on and off. You can also just drive it onto the trailer. We hopped on holding our hats and wrapped in our jackets, because the wind was going.

When we arrived at the main boat we met Rachel, Cameron's deckhand for the day. We were run through how to put our life jackets on, where to get the drinks, how to use the toilet with flushing it before and after, and how to get onto the bow. Then we got settled in and left the mooring. We drove for a while wandered around the boat meanwhile. Rachel heated up some ham and cheese croissants for us because we didn't have much breakfast.

We spotted a LOAD of whales meanwhile. When I was sitting on the bow I saw one with its calf. We think it was trying to teach the calf how to breech - jump out if the water and land with a splash. After about and hour we were at our first fishing spot. Here we were fishing for Spanish Mackerel.

My brother and Alan got some rods and Cameron let them out so we could troll the lures. After about ten minutes Alan had a fish on. It looked pretty hard to reel in! I probably wouldn't be able to do it. When it finally came in the fish was a Mackerel. After another five minutes he caught another Mackerel. After ten minutes my brother caught one. Then we decided that three Spanish Mackerel were enough and we'd do some bottom fishing.

We drove for a while and hit the reef for some fishing. There mum did some fishing too. Mum had trouble, so I defiantly wouldn't be able to. We caught loads of Long-Nosed Emperor. We also caught two or three Crimson Sea Perch. Alan was our main shark catcher.

There were LOADS of sharks swimming around. When we caught a shark we had to let the line snap because they were so strong. The reason we caught them was because we caught a fish. We had to reel the fish up like there was no tomorrow otherwise a shark would swallow your fish, and your hook. We had to keep moving three hundred/four hundred metres because of the sharks though.

After a while Cameron decided it was time for some sail fishing. This is game fishing though, so we didn't keep a fish if we caught one. So we had to catch Sailfish. What we did was put hang a teaser into the water on each side of the boat. The teasers had plastic fish and squid on them and a real dead fish on the end. Then we hung out three rods with bait.

The method was that the Sailfish comes up and has a look at the teaser. Then it notices the bits of bait in the middle which have hooks and are attached to the rod. What the Sailfish does is go up to the fish and slap it twice with its tail. The turns around and slaps it twice with its long beak. Then the fish is stunned and eats the bait.

After about ten/fifteen minutes my brother caught one! It took at least ten minutes to reel the fish in! When the fish finally came in Cameron couldn't take it by the gaff hook because we had to put it back. We took strength to hold it up for the photo and then Cameron let it go. While we're on the subject of Sailfish, that morning the caught and tagged fifty/sixty Sailfish!

After that we had some lunch. It was buttered bread rolls, chicken, pasta salad and coleslaw. I didn't finish my bread roll because I was feeling a bit queasy because I didn't have any breakfast. We dragged the teasers for a while and dragged them in and put them out.

We were on our way back soon wan Cameron filleted our fish for us. That took about an hour because of all the fish. Then we took the relaxing trip back. Rachel asking people if they wanted tea or coffee, Alan, dad and my brother up in the wheelhouse with Cameron and mum, Judy and me lying on the bed/seats outside.

After a while all three of us fell asleep. I only woke up when we arrived back at our mooring. We put our shoes on, got our backpacks and fish, and hopped onto Sea Legs.

We enjoyed the trip back where we took some photos. When we were back in the car we drove back to the caravan and had some fish and potatoes for dinner. Then we had some mango and ice-cream for dessert. I was soon in bed. I had a great day even though I didn't get and fish!!!!

OK Day

Today we woke up and had a bit of toast for breakfast. After that I really only read my book. I also did a bit of schoolwork. After a while mum and Judy went shopping and my brother and I went for a swim in the pool. It was cold in the pool at first, but it soon warmed up. Then I lay on a deckchair and dried off in about ten minutes.

When I came back we had a bit of lunch. After that dad, my brother, Alan, and a friend of ours called Rudi. While the were gone I played a few games with mum and Judy, and read a bit of my book.

After a while some german friends of ours came to wish my brother and Alan a happy birthday. Their names are Uwf (pronounced; u-v-e), and Beate (pronounced; be-a-te). The names would be hard to pronounce in English though, because their german. They were really nice and brought my brother a birthday present and brought me something too.

They gave me a keyring that had Diddles on it. Diddles is a german soft toy like Pooh Bear, but a mouse with a dress and really big feet. Mum and Judy were inside making a microwave cake while I sat outside with Uwf and Beate.

After a while Beate was really nice and offered to take me to their mobile home and I could chose another soft toy/keyring. I ended up getting a minute owl that fitted in the palm of my hand. I ended up calling it Pine, like a pine tree because it was brown.

Then Rudi and his wife came and we had birthday cake. My brother and I also had a shower somewhere in-between and wrote our journals. We had a few nachos and were as full as possible. I dried the dishes and was soon in bed. I had a GREAT time today!!!!

The Mango Place Again

Today we woke up in the morning and my brother got his birthday presents. He got three shirts, a fish identification chart and a card. At breakfast he got a birthday present from Alan and Judy. He got a card with a comic, a chocolate egg, a little toy racing car and a flying tour over Mt Buffalo thing. This is a hobby that Alan, Judy and their kids run.

After breakfast we went to do a spot of shopping. First we went to Coles where mum, Judy and I did some shopping and the dad, Alan and my brother came and pieced us up with Caitlyn. After that we drove back to the caravan and dropped of our shopping. Then we drove to the mango place. Each of us bought a mango smoothie and then talked until we left.

When we got back we had lunch at the caravan with Caitlyn and then dad dropped her off at her house. Then dad, my brother and Alan went fishing to the jetty. Mum, Judy and I stayed home. I read, did stuff on the computer and played cards. We played UNO actually. And a bit of Black Peter. After that dad, Alan and my brother came home and we had chicken mango salad for dinner. After that we had a shower and went to bed.

Not Much Doing

Today we woke up in the morning and had a spot of breakfast. Then my brother and I decided it was a day for relaxation. We sat down inside and watched a movie. I watched Trapped until lunchtime and then we had a bite to eat. After that my brother and I went for a two to three hour swim.

I did around two hundred metres when I did my laps and the rest was forward rolls, backward rolls and handstands. And my brother also chased me around the pool a bit two.

When we came back my brother and I went for a shower and when we came back had dinner. Judy made dinner today and I think it was Chinese salad or something. But it was good. After that we had some mango and went to bed.

Pearl Shell

We got up today and had some breakfast. Then we persuaded dad to open the pearl shell from yesterday that was still closed. After some prying and cracking, we managed not to ruin the shell. Dad then opened it and had a feel around the muscle bit of the shell; the bit that keeps it closed.

Dad found two pearls! One was three millimetres and the other one was four millimetres. We put them in a mini ziplock bag straight away so we wouldn't lose them. Then dad dug out all the meat and muscle and put it in the bin. This was hard because it was stuck to the shell, but it all came out soon enough. The shell was as shiny as ever, but the other one wasn't.

The other one I got was already open and only sitting on top of each other. We got out a scrubbing brush and a scrounge. We started trying to scrub off the layer that was between us and the nacre. The nacre is this really shiny stuff a pearl is made out of. For instance, sometimes a grain of sand gets in the shell, and the shell forms nacre over it. It also has that on the inside of its shell.

After a while we decided it was time to go to the market. Alan stayed behind while we took Judy in our car. When we got there we bought some bread, mum got a new hand bag, I got a purse with a boab tree on it, and we all got a fruit thing each. Then we put two in the freezer for dad and Alan to eat at the caravan, and drove back. We had some lunch and dad and Alan had their fruit thing.

Then mum, dad, my brother and Alan went off to do some fishing. Meanwhile I did some school work, read a book and played around on the computer. After about two hours the fishing fleet came back home and we had some toasted sandwiches. Then we drove to the museum.

We watched two shows that were by Malcolm Douglas and Mary Durak. They were
really good!! I liked the Malcolm Douglas one best though. It was about his
daily life and how he captured crocodiles. Then we came home and went to bed straight away. I had a great time opening those and cleaning those pearl shells!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Beautiful, Unique, Threatened

We woke up today to a cloudless sky that was only dotted with the moon. We had some toast for breakfast and then were soon on our way to Willie Creek Pearl Farm. When we finally got there we had a quick look around the showroom and then went to check out the wharf. After that we all went up to the café and had a look at the thirty centimetre goldfish and went to the toilet.

We got our fishing stuff out meanwhile Alan and Judy went on the ten o'clock pearl tour. All we really caught was three or four Fingermark and two pufferfish. I got two pearl shells from the bottom of the two metre cliffs. One was already opened and the other we didn't open because it was still closed. I also unhooked mums bait from a rock before the tide got it. Then we finally got back to the car with Alan and Judy and drove back. On the way we stopped at James Price Point protesters camp.

People are trying to build a gas hub and dig up the good water in Broome, and some people don't want JPP (James Price Point) ruined. They camped on the corner of the road and gave out stickers and things. Two stickers say 'No Gas, on the Kimberly Coast' and 'Hands off Country'. They didn't have anymore stickers left, so my brother and I got a brochure thing. We took some photos and heard a bit about what was going on.

Colin Barnett, the WA premier, was letting people start the gas hub. And he was letting them do illegal things to do it. Because they were taking seventy year old people and smashing them heard first into the ground and they poisoned the camel, Bull, the JPP supporters were using. This was because Bull had put his head the out of the bushes a few times and went 'ggggrrrrr' like a bull. The vets were actually heading down there right now.

Then the supporters had stopped their bulldozer ever working again (lamb chops etc…) and had also spotted them with the whales. They we trying to heard the whales out of their usual migrating place, and they crashed into one while they were doing it!! This was all filmed from the sand dunes by the supporters. And sometimes the police came and patrolled through their camp at night, and the guy who was talking to us always held out a really powerful light against the camera! How clever!

When we left after about one and a half hours, we drove back to the caravan. We had some lunch and then my brother and I went to the pool. We spent about two or three hours there and were back at the caravan after that. I had a shower and soon started to make Turkey Salad with mum helping me here and there. We finished and the salad turned out really good! After that we had some mango and ice-cream and were soon in bed. I had a great day learning about the Kimberly!!!!

2000 Metres = 80 Laps

Today we got up and had some toast for breakfast. After that we set off to do some shopping. We dropped off Allan and Judy at their Pearl Luggers tour, and drove to the shopping centre. There we got a few things and drove back to pick up Allan and Judy.

When we got back my brother wrote a poem about me getting crushed by a rubbish compactor and then we had lunch. After that my brother and I went for a swim. We played bait and my brother soon left because I wanted to do laps and he didn't. In the end I had done 2000 metres which I later found out was 80 laps. Then I lay down on a deck chair to rest my lungs and dry off in the boiling sun.

When I came back I had a shower and I played around outside. My brother husked a coconut and we soon had some dinner. Mum made a DELICIOUS tuna salad and and we had some warm mango with chocolate sauce and ice-cream for dessert. I had a great day and was REALLY hungry after my swim in the pool!

Swimming Nearly All Day

Today we got up and had some breakfast. After that mum and Judy wrote a shopping list a we were soon all in the car; me on mums lap, my brother in the middle, Judy on the other side, Allan in the front passenger seat and dad driving.

We dropped off mum and Judy to do some shopping and looking around while dad, Allan, my brother and I went to do some shopping. Allan bought a book and all of us did some food shopping. After that we went back to the caravan and had some lunch. After that my brother and I went for a swim that lasted at least five hours.

After a while dad came and did a few laps of the pool. Then he hopped out and we did too after a while. Then we came and I had a shower and we had some mango and chicken salad for dinner. Then we were in bed soon. I just loved that five hour swim!!!!!!!!!!!

Another Lazy Day in Broome

Today we woke up to a still cloudy day and had some breakfast after a while. Then my brother and I wanted to go for a swim but it was closed for cleaning. We tried once more and once again and it was finally open. We swam for a while and soon came back. Allan's car hadn't started, and the RSVP and it turned out that Judy accidentally filled up the diesel tank with unleaded.

So only dad, mum my brother and I went to pick up Caitlyn's sister (Malissa) and drove to see the big cruise ship come and dock at the Broome Jetty. We got there and walked out past the boat ramp and onto some rocks. While mum, dad and Malissa watched the cruise ship, my brother and I talked about what we're going to make with lego when we get back home. We also went to a lookout and dad went under the Jetty and took a photo.

We were soon off again and we; dropped of Malissa, went to Coles, went to the post and drove back to the caravan. Then we had some lunch and my brother and I went straight to the pool (I mean, who wouldn't, it was SO hot!). We swam for about five hours and then the pool closed. When we got back some German friends we met were over and we had a little chat. When they were gone we had some nachos, frozen mango and ice-cream and were soon in bed. I had a great but lazy day!!

Crocodiles in Town

We had a short breakfast of delicious baguette and butter. Then we decided what we were going to do today, and it was a nice easy. In the morning we were going to the Mango Place and in the afternoon, the Malcolm Douglas Crocodile Park. After a while we were on our way to the Mango Place.

It was at 12 Mile and was a kilometres drive in from the main road. We arrived and had a look at souvenirs and shirts, and then bought some stuff. First Allan got himself a mango smoothie. Then we got ourselves one and a mango slushy. The smoothie was DELICIOUS!, but the slushy was SO sweet and tasted funny. After that my brother had a lime mint tea thing and I got some mango fudge. The fudge came in a small five by five centimetre block. Allan and Judy shared one, I got a whole one and mum, dad and my brother shared the other two.

Then we drove back to the caravan and had some lunch. After a while we drove to the Malcolm Douglas Crocodile Park. We met Caitlyn there with her sister too. After about ten minutes we went on the feeding tour. We saw a lot of crocodiles around three to four metres long. We saw this really big one called Fatso too! At the end we went to the Hatchery and we got to hold baby crocodiles around thirty centimetres long!!! I only got to hold it for about five to ten seconds because everyone else wanted a go.

When that was finished mum and Judy went off shopping and dad, Allan, my brother, Caitlyn, her sister and I went to do some other stuff. First we dropped of Caitlyn and her sister, then we drove to the petrol station. After that we drove to Coles to get some tomatoes and drove back to the caravan. There we had a dinner of tomato, mozzarella, basil, balsamic vinegar and olive oil. It was DELICIOUS!!!!!! We were soon in bed and sleeping soundly.

Busy Day at Broome

We woke up to a cloudy day today, but had a good time having our breakfast. We had bacon, baked beans and eggs. After that we talked to the neighbours and soon were on our way to the market at about nine thirty. There we all got a Fruit Thingy and mum got two pearl rings; one Auntie Katie and one for grandma. Then we left to go fishing at the Broome Jetty.

We got there and carried out all our hand lines and bait. We got out there and fished for about fifteen minutes. Dad caught the first fish and mum caught the last. Otherwise we didn't catch anything. So, after a while we left the Jetty and drove back to the caravan.

We washed our hands and had some food. My brother and I went for a swim in the pool, and came out about an hour later to go to a concert. The concert is for who wants to keep James Price Point. We drove to Cable Beach and sat on our towels. There we also saw Caitlyn. If you don't know who she is, read yesterdays or the day before blog entries. It turned out that they were playing music from a catamaran out fifty metres from shore. We didn't have to pay, but to save JPP, dad told us it was public pressure on the politicians.

It was about three hours and I really regretted not taking my bathers. When it finished we drove home and had some nibbles. Then we set off for the Staircase to the Moon market. At the market we bought some stuff to eat. I got rice and really yummy chicken kebab things. Then we all got a small Fruit Thingy and headed off to the Staircase.

Because it cloudy we didn't really see the Staircase, just about two steps and that was all. We then drove back to the caravan and I had a shower and we went to bed. I REALLY had a great day!!!!!!!!!

Jandamarra

Today we got up and had a piece of toast each. Then we set off to the market with Allan and Judy. There we wandered around in groups and looked at things. I had a pancake filled with banana and Nutella (mum had one with mango). I also had a Fruit Thingy (that's what they're REALLY called too, it doesn't have another name. Their frozen fruit that go through this special machine and come out like ice-cream, but pure, cold fruit) filled with mango and coconut.

I got a new rainbow shirt that was dyed by the lady there herself and some anklets for my friends at school. Mum got some mango sauce and other stuff. We also looked for a pearl ring for my Auntie Katie, but didn't find one. I also watched a bit of the Wildlife show.

It was where a man there had snakes and he teaches people how to know if their venomous or not, and which ones are which. They also fed a fruit bat hanging from a ladies hand! It was SO cute!!! They also had little baby wall wallabies in pillowcases. There was this tiny one with no hair at all and the lady had to find it in the pillowcase before feeding it.

Dad soon went off to drop my brother off at this whale watching tour where he would be a trainee deck hand. When dad came back we drove back to the caravan. We talked a bit and I went for a swim. After about three hours in the pool I came back and had some food. It was some bread we got at the market with crunchy peanut butter and pickled cucumbers. Soon I had had a shower and was all clean. Then we drove off to pick up my brother.

He came back on the third load of people to come off the boat. The boat was called Sea Legs, because it was a boat with wheels. When it's water, the three legs clip up at the front and two next to the motor. When they got on shore it was dark and Cameron (the skipper) drove on shore up to his car with the Sea Legs. There we said goodbye and drove off to pick up Caitlyn. If you don't know who she is, see yesterdays blog.

It sat on her lap again and we drove off to see Jandamarra with her friend and Allan and Judy. We got our hands stamped (so everyone knows we've payed) and brought our seats up and picked a spot. We got some dinner of chicken and beef with rice and a few vegetables. We finished just as the show started.

It was about Jandamarra who died fighting for Aboriginal rights. In the middle we had a twenty minute interval, and my brother and I went to the toilet. It was great!!! The actors, the sound, the background, EVERYTHING!! I really liked how they spoke fluent Aboriginal. After about an hour or two it finished and we left. We took Caitlyn and her friend back and went to our caravan. There I had a biscuit and went to bed. I REALLY, REALLY did enjoy that play!!!!!!!!!

Broome

Today we got up around five thirty to get to Broome early. I didn't have any breakfast and neither did mum, so we were soon on the road. I read my book nearly ALL the way. It was quite a boring drive really. But, we soon arrived. We lined up with Allan and Judy and dad went to check what our site was.

We were soon backed in with Allan and Judy's camper door facing us. We then made up camp. Allan and dad put out their awning so they joined up and mum, Judy and I put out our green mats. Then the tables and chairs. I put up the washing line and dad put up our light to use at night. Our camp was finally ready!

I had two rice crackers and then my brother and I went straight for a swim in the pool. The pool is HUGE!! There's this special place where you can swim laps and another bit with a waterfall. My brother and I put our towels onto some deck chairs and hopped. It was really refreshing! We were soon used to the temperature of the pool and were diving around the pool.

We played some games and after about half and hour, mum came and got us so we could go shopping. We were on our way to town and were soon there. We went into the shopping centre and and got some lunch. I had a ham, tomato, spinach and something else and pickle Turkish. Then we went to Safeway and started shopping. When we were done we put it in the car and drove back to the caravan.

Then my brother and I went for another swim. After a while dad came to get us to come and see the dinosaur footprints. We drove off with Allan and Judy behind us in the their car, and went to pick up Caitlyn. She was one of the scout leaders at 1st Baranduda scouts. That's where I go. I sat on her lap while her sister sat behind dad and my brother in the middle.

When we got there we had to find the footprints quickly because footprints only showed at low tide, and the tide was coming in. We found a group of people around two footprints after a while of searching by ourselves. They were really interesting. A few little kids put their feet in them, but I didn't want to get mine wet.

We soon drove back home after delivering Caitlyn back home. When we got back we had some nachos and went to bed. What a GREAT day I've had!!!!!!!!!

Barn Hill Sunset Beach

We got up in the morning and had our breakfast outside. Soon we started the usual; me reading, my brother drawing, dad working on the computer and mum drinking tea. We spent most of the mooring like that. Soon the people next to us left, and Allan and Judy moved in next to us. We soon had lunch and kept going with the usual.

This time mum did some washing. Allan was really nice and let me play on their roll out, forty-nine key, flexible keyboard. It was really fun and dad and I worked out how to change it to a different instrument. I also played a bit on my recorder.

Mum, my brother and I went up to the station shop and we all got ice-creams. They were DELICIOUS!!!! My brother and I got a white-chocolate one each. We soon were up on the hill and watching the sunset. My brother and I played around on the sand at the bottom, and we came back and had a shower.

We packed up and had spaghetti bolognese for dinner. It was really yum! We were soon in bed and sleeping. What a great time I've had today!!!

Barn Hill

Today we got up to another cloudy day. We had breakfast and did all our jobs to pack up the caravan. We were soon on the road to Barn Hill Station. It wasn't very far so we were there in about half an our. I listened to my iPod most of the way though. We got the last powered site in the station while Allan and Judy got an un-powered. We set up the awning, chairs, table and mats.

Then we had a quick lunch and I kept reading my book - Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Soon Allan came to our site and he chatted with dad a little. After a while we all got round to have a shower. Mine kept going cold then warm, cold then warm. But it was still OK. We soon headed up to the beach cliff to watch the sunset.

We took Allan and Judy with and we made some silhouette photos. Then we picked up the pizzas we'd ordered and ate at the caravan. Then Allan and Judy came over and we had a little chat. And for dessert we had fruit salad. I had a great day!! It was REALLY fun!! I hope to do some of it tomorrow!!!

Bush Poetry

We got up in the morning today to a cloudy and breezy day. We all had breakfast at different times until we were all occupied. I sat down and read my book and finished it. I got out Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. We had a bit of lunch after that. But we soon put on our bathers and drove down to the lagoon with Allan.

When we got there we got the boat off the roof and launched it in a strong, shallow bit of water running out to sea. Allan got in with Judy - his wife - and they cruised off while we walked along. We walked up to the oysters and along the oyster-strewn rocks. We had to keep our shoes on though, because those oysters looked sharp.

We met a guy fishing and kept walking. We stopped to talk to talk to these two people in a boat seven metres off shore. They caught a Mangrove Jack and a big Estuary Cod. After that we turned around and headed back because rain had started to dribble from the skies.

We walked through deeper water this time and we soon met up with Allan and Judy. Then dad and my brother went out and we walked on. We soon loaded the boat onto Allan's car and started off towards the caravan. There my brother and I went to have a shower and when we came back we headed off to the entertainment. Today it was Bush Poetry.

The poems were HILARIOUS!! We listened to The Man Who Couldn't Reverse, My Country, A Bushman, A Fateful Days Fishing, The Saga of Boozer Brown, A Slight Error of Judgment, It Was All the Wife's Idea and Tanglin' With a Croc. There were some more but I don't know the names of them. Most of them were about satellite dishes, caravans and buses, crocodiles and fishing.

It soon finished and we went back to the caravan. We had a bowl of noodles, sausages and broccoli each. After that we wrote our journals and soon went to bed.

The Lagoon

We got up in the morning to another sunny day. We got up soon and had breakfast. As usual I sat outside and read my book. I've also nearly finished it. Mum did a few washing loads until around ten thirty. Then we all got dressed in our bathers and drove off to the lagoon. Dads friend - Allan - also came with a blow up boat on the roof we could paddle around.

We soon arrived and went down to the beach bit of the lagoon. The lagoon is't really a lagoon though; it a sort of beach with mud that runs into the ocean. We all helped carry bits of the boat down; my brother and I a paddle each and dad and Allan carrying the boat.

When we got down my brother and Allan went from the shallows out to where we met them. My brother and I played around in the water a bit while dad and Allan went back up to the cars. Dad drove back to get mum and Allan went to get the pump to pump up the boat.

My brother and I played around in the water diving down to see things and chase fish. There were loads of shells with crabs in them too. A while after Allan came back my brother and I went on the boat together. We didn't exactly manage, but we hopped back in the water soon.

I went out with dad too though. We paddled across the lagoon bit and met Bill and Trish, the people at the entertainment yesterday night. We then let ourselves drift down with the wind using our paddles as sails. When we came back I kept playing with my brother and we started a Slime Mine. We found a lot of mud/slime and set them out to dry.

We soon had to leave and pack up all our stuff. When we go tback to the caravan we my brother and I went to have a shower. When we came back we had lunch and went up to the shop and we each got an ice-cream. After that I mostly sat outside reading and writing my journal. (My brother also went to the toilet and couldn't get out until this other person outside opened it too!) We soon had a delicious dinner of sausages. After that we went to bed. I had a great day swimming around at the lagoon!!

No One Wants to Feed a Budgie, when Their on Holiday!

Today we woke up in the morning to a nice and sunny day. I stayed in bed quite a long time reading. We soon got up and had breakfast. After that I just sat outside with my brother who did drawing and I read. I was really absorbed in my book when mum left for the washing and my brother and I started fighting.

I don't think you'd like to know what happened so I wont tell you. But I soon had enough and went to find mum. When we came back together I kept reading. Mum left to do another load of washing. I really loved reading the book because I wasn't disturbed.

Dad was obviously away chatting to someone, but he came back soon. He took my brother up to the lagoon to do some fishing. I read inside though because it was getting hot outside. When they came back from the lagoon my brother told me they'd seen a turtle and sting ray. It sounded like fun but I preferred my book.

We soon wrote our journals and went up this place where we had some entertainment. These two people - Bill and Trish - played songs on Ukuleles. They had really funny lines in their songs and here're some; 'no one wants to feed a budgie, when their on holiday'. There was this really funny one about a budgerigar.

Here's a the what I can remember of this chorus in a really funny song. 'Switch on the generator and lock yourselves in. Better get a porter potty, to keep the blow flies of your body'. I had a lot of fun laughing with everyone else about their songs!

I had a very good dinner after that (meat balls) and hope to sleep very well.

Port Smith

Today we got up and I had a small breakfast. We packed up the caravan pretty quickly and soon were on the road. After a while we got off the corrugations and onto the sealed road. I mostly listened to my iPod and read my book. We soon arrived at a place we went last time - Sandfire.

We stopped there for fuel and had some food. We soon drove on and reached Port Smith Lagoon. We drove over more corrugations and got to the caravan park. We got site seventy-four near the office. There was a toilet at the office, so we didn't have to walk half-way through the park. We set up really quickly.

Soon after that we had a bit of food and looked around. Mum cleaned out two of the cupboards and I read most of the time. We soon had to go inside and had dinner. It was a really nice plate of nachos. My brother, dad and one of his friends went down to the lagoon to have a look at the sunset.

We soon had to start writing our journals. Around eight o'clock we went to bed to catch up on sleep. I did have a nice relaxing day reading a really good book - Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Pardoo Creek

We got up a little late like usual. We had breakfast and sat out in the sun of the cloudless sky. Some of the people mum and dad have made friends with came and talked to us a bit, but otherwise it was quite peaceful. We soon decided to go to Pardoo Creek and do some fishing. We had made friends with this german couple, and we took them. Sort of. We only took the husband, not the wife because she had to do some washing.

We arrived and the others started fishing. I didn't because I don't like fishing there. No one caught anything, but this guy gave us some live bait. This lady also caught a sea snake that killed itself by tangling itself up in the fishing line. This other man also caught a sting ray. It was really cute and floated away on its back.

We had a great time fishing too. I sometimes sat in the car reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix. I played with the bait fish for a while. They were really fun to try and catch them! The tide came up very quickly though, so we had to keep moving backwards. This other family gave us some fish though.

We soon drove back and had a few pieces of bread for something to eat because it was three o'clock. Then my brother and I went for a swim in the pool. It was really nice and cool. We stayed there for a while and talked to these lady. We soon had to get out and have a shower.

Two people we met came over to us and we shared the fish with them. It was real fun! We soon went to bed though. I had a great time swimming. It was also really fun!!

Pardon You

My brother and I got up this morning and did a little bit of shark drawing. We soon had to stop because we had to get breakfast. It was really yummy. We soon started packing up the caravan. After a while we were ready and set of to Pardoo station. My brother and I nicknamed Pardoo Pardon You. We did shark drawing all the way. It was REALLY fun!

When we arrived we chose a sight and all did our jobs. We put out the awning, chairs and table. We had some fruit and decided to go and check out the Pardoo Creek. It was really muddy there though. My brother found a dead shovel nose ray and a dead common ray. It was really interesting. I found a free barramundi lure. We drove back to the station after that.

We had lunch and went to go fishing at the creek. None of us caught anything except for my brother. He caught a small fish that we didn't know what it was. I stopped fishing after about ten minutes. I sat in the car and read my book - Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

We soon returned to the caravan and my brother and I went straight to the pool to have a swim. My brother and I had a lot of fun chasing each other around the pool. Three families came and went while we were having fun. Mum soon came and got us. We got back and had a shower straight away. The shower was okay but didn't have a very good stream.

When we got back we wrote our journals and had a very delicious dinner of mexican potatoes. We went to bed soon after that. I had a very good day swimming in the Pardon You (Pardoo) pool.

Airborne

Today we go tout of bed a little late and had breakfast. Then we drove to get some bread and do some other stuff. We didn't drive into Port Hedland though, we drove into South Hedland shopping centre. We soon finished and drove back to the caravan.

We had a quick lunch of DELICIOUS bagels and drove to the airport to start the Mail Run. The Mail Run is where planes deliver mail to stations and ranches who are in the middle of nowhere. We had two sackfuls of post to deliver, a sackful for two stations. Someone from the station comes up to the runway and collect the post. We also get out to talk and stretch our legs.

We waited about fifteen minutes in the 'Passengers Lounge' until our pilot - Liam - came. After another fifteen minutes walked to the plane and hopped on. We were the only people taking the tour too. There were only eight seats, and the plane can't have all seats full, so only one more person could've got on.

We got our earplugs and drove onto the runway. I love taking off! When we were in the air we saw the ground really well. We saw all the salt lakes and mining trucks, all the trains and cars. It was bumpy here and there, but I like that sort of flying. After about half an hour of flying we arrived at our first station. We landed with a small bump and got out. Wherever you looked there was long grass and hills. There were a few trees too.

We talked for about ten minutes and then hopped back into the plane. There were some more air pockets (bumpy bits in the air where it makes the aeroplane wobble) and we soon got to the second and last station. The lady there had brought her granddaughter along. The station had one million acres for cattle. Both the stations were also mustering.

We learned that there were a few camels wandering around and that her family like to eat them. They had two dogs that kept rubbing themselves to our trousers too! We soon started off back to the airport. We went through this cloud and it was all white outside! It was SO fun.

Then we drove back home and had a delicious dinner of Chinese. Then we had the rest of our half bagel and soon went to bed. I had a great day flying!! I just LOVE it!!!

Port Hedland

We woke up in the morning to a still cloudy and windy day. We had a nice breakfast and soon hooked the caravan onto the car. We were off to Port Hedland. In the car I really just listened to my iPod. After a few hundred kilometres, we arrived. We then drove to South Hedland, where we were staying. Our caravan park was called Black Rock Tourist Park. We got site one hundred and eight and set up the caravan. After about ten minutes we drove off again to do some shopping. We drove into Port Hedland and drove to the shopping centre.

We went into Coles and started our big shop. This was because all our next stops until Broome will be stations, so there won't be anywhere to shop. We shopped for some food and some other stuff. We soon drove back to the caravan and had lunch. Then we drove off to have a look at the place.

We went to the visitors centre and my brother and I watched a video about the iron ore. The longest iron ore train in record was seven point three five three kilometres long. It had six hundred and eighty-two carriages and eight engines. All of them had six thousand horsepower engines. It was really interesting.

We also went to have a look at the places where you can fish and dad, my brother and I found some magnificent shells while mum stayed in the car. We also went to have a look at the enormous salt piles. We ran up to the lookout just in time to catch the REALLY long train coming through. It was fun to watch it come under the bridge that your standing on and look at the top of the carriages.

We soon drove back home and had dinner. It was beef stroganoff for a change. It was DELICIOUS! We soon went to bed at last. I had a brilliant time watching all those trains!!!

VIPCT

The morning today was quite cloudy and it was very windy. Mum and dad had got up around five to put the awning in it was so windy. Breakfast was good and we were soon having fun. I wrote a newspaper report about a shark attack and spent the rest of the time playing at the playground.

We soon went off to do a little shopping. We drove to the shopping centre and to Wickham. When we came back we got lunch ready inside (because it was to windy outside) and I played on the playground a little more. After a while we drove to Johns Creek to do some fishing.

The tide was rushing and if you cast, you had to reel in quickly so it wouldn't float into the mangroves. I caught a fifteen centimetre Moses Perch and mum caught two Happy Moments. Mum also caught a little baby Blue-lined Emperor. My brother caught mostly Moses Perch and this other one. I tried to catch a Mudskipper, but I don't know if it's possible. I also said VIPCT when my prawn was coming in. It means 'Very Important Prawn Coming Through'.

We soon drove home and I played on the playground with my brother. We dug a hole about sixty centimetres deep, but my brother stopped doing it. I kept going until Hollie came along. I made friends with her yesterday or something. She brought her brother along and we played tag. They were both smaller than me but it was still as fun.

Hollies brother kept falling in our hole, and Hollie fell into the hole her brother made. We managed to connect the holes. I soon had to go and have a shower and then we had dinner. It was chicken stroganoff. We had a doughnut after and went to bed. I had fun with the hole we made!!

Cossack

We woke up in the morning and had a nice breakfast. We were soon on our way to Cossack. Cossack is an old and abandoned town. It was settled in 1863 due to the gold rush in the Pilbra. It was abandoned in 1950 as all the pearl luggers moved to Broome.

There are We got straight to the wharf.
We had a look and started fishing. The most poplar fish we caught were little moses perch. Dad and I also caught a black brim and mum caught some sort of butterfly fish.

After an hour or so I washed the squid board (and got soaking wet meanwhile) and we left. We had a look at Settlers beach and Readers lookout. They were really interesting and we took lots of photos.

Then we drove back to the caravan and had lunch outside. Then we drove off again to go fishing at Johns Creek. My brother was the only one who caught fish. The were also moses perch and some sort of striped fish.

We soon left and drove again back to the caravan. We all had a shower and had a delicious dinner of sausages. Then we went to bed.

Point Samson

The morning at Onslow was quite fresh, but we got through breakfast and did our jobs. We were soon on the road on our way to Point Samson. We stopped on the way to get some fruit and to fill up our petrol tank.

We soon arrived and got to our caravan park; The Cove caravan park. We set up the awning, put out the chairs and table and had a look around the park. The toilets were huge and you could have a mini party in each shower. My brother and I enjoyed the playground. It had a slide, pole, monkey circles and a flying fox with a swing attached to it.

We soon had lunch and drove off to do some shopping. We went to the supermarket a bought a few things. We carried it back to the car and drove back to the caravan. My brother and I played mostly on the playground for the rest of the day.

It soon got dark and we went inside to have dinner. Before that my brother and I had to have a shower. Dinner was a salad which was simply delicious. After some drying of the dishes and brushing of teeth, we went to bed.

Twelve Fish

I woke up un the morning, pretending to sleep. I got up soon, though. Breakfast was the usual; toast and hot chocolate. Then we decided to go fishing at Four Mile Creek. We parked at the car park and walked out to the point.

Mum and I found some pretty shells and enormous fish scales. They were five centimetres across! We started fish until when we arrived at the point. Mum caught two fish while I only caught one. My brother caught about five and dad none. We fished for a while until we decided to go the wharf.

When we arrived lot so of people were already fishing there. We settled ourselves in and started fishing. My brother caught about three fish while mum caught the rest. We soon had to leave there too because a ship was coming in.

We went to have a look at this other place where I found a dead snake. I also found some more pretty shells. Then we drove back to the caravan. We had lunch and I stayed back with mum while dad and my brother went to do some more fishing.

Mum and I had a shower and my brother and dad came back soon. THey had a shower and we had a delicious dinner of chicken tuscan. It was really good! Then we brushed our teeth and I dried the dishes and we went to bed. Soon. I had a great day fishing! Really!!!
